Unprotected mobile phone calls use standard vocal communication service (‘voice line’), whilst secure phone calls use the so-called CSD Data Line (Circuit Switched Data). The CSD data transmission service between mobile phones is a prerequisite for operating the secure GSM telephony system. To enable the CSD data line, certain mobile telephony providers require a specific user request. After enabling the CSD data line (also known as fax/data line), the operator will provide the user with an additional mobile phone number, assigned to the same SIM card. The new number will be the safe one, valid for sending secure mobile phone calls. To speed up the CSD data line activation process, PrivateWave is trying to collect as much information as possible on the CSD line availability throughout the world. Before using PrivateGSM, please consult the CSD map.
