PrivateWave was founded in 2005 with the aim of bring innovation to the secure communications market. Since the beginning, the company chose to cooperate with universities leveraging on the incubation by Acceleratore d’Impresa of the Milan Politecnico and CPStartup of the Switzerland University.

Once completed the development of the technology, in late October 2009 the company became an entirely Italian private company and then – in mid October 2010 - changed its name in PrivateWave Italia SpA, following the merger with zerozero39 srl.
